My Story

I qualified in physiotherapy from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2006, having previously completed a degree in Sports Rehabilitation and Sport Science. Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked across NHS services, private practice and sports rehabilitation, helping people manage musculoskeletal problems and return to the activities that matter to them.

I joined St George’s Hospital in London in 2010 and became an Advanced Practitioner in 2018. Alongside my work at Redrock Physio, I work within the upper limb team and senior leadership team in outpatient musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

I have particular expertise in shoulder and elbow conditions, including complex shoulder instability, hypermobility and recovery following injury. My experience also includes neck problems, hip and knee conditions, and rehabilitation for a return to exercise and sport.

My approach is calm, thorough and collaborative. I give you time to explain your symptoms, concerns and what you want to achieve. Together, we work towards a clearer understanding of your problem and a practical plan for moving forward.

How Simon Works

  • Understanding your priorities:

I start by listening to your story, including how the problem affects everyday life, what you have already            tried and what you hope to achieve from physiotherapy.

  • Detailed assessment:

I combine a thorough physical examination with clinical reasoning to explore possible explanations for               your symptoms and identify the findings that matter to your care.

  • Clear explanations

I explain the assessment findings in accessible language, giving you time to ask questions and                           understand the options available.

  • A shared rehabilitation plan

We agree a practical way forward, with rehabilitation tailored to your needs and reviewed as you                         progress. The aim is to develop your confidence as well as your physical ability.

  • The right next step

Where further investigation or another clinical opinion may be helpful, I explain the reasoning and                       discuss the appropriate next steps with you.

Spotlight: Shoulder & Elbow Physiotherapy in St Albans

Shoulder and elbow problems can interfere with sleep, work, exercise and everyday tasks. At Redrock Physio in St Albans, I bring extensive upper limb experience to the assessment of pain, instability and difficulties following injury.

My focus is on understanding your individual problem and developing a clear plan to improve function and help you return to the activities you enjoy.

Spotlight: Hypermobility & Shoulder Instability

Hypermobility-related shoulder problems can involve recurring instability and difficulty feeling confident in movement.

I have particular experience assessing complex shoulder instability associated with hypermobility. Rehabilitation is tailored to the individual, with a focus on movement control, strength and confidence in everyday activities and exercise.

Spotlight: A Further Opinion on Persistent Symptoms

If an upper limb problem has persisted or your rehabilitation has stalled, a fresh assessment may help clarify the next steps.

I review your history, previous treatment and relevant existing investigations alongside a detailed examination. We then discuss what the findings mean and whether a different rehabilitation approach or further clinical input may be helpful.

Shockwave Therapy at Redrock

Redrock Physio also offers shockwave therapy for selected tendon conditions. If appropriate, your clinician can discuss whether an assessment for this treatment would be useful as part of your rehabilitation.

Ask the team for more information about shockwave therapy.

Outside the Clinic

Before becoming a physiotherapist, I spent ten years working in aircraft engineering. My interest in physiotherapy began when I received treatment for a back injury while rowing. That experience inspired me to change careers.

Outside work, I enjoy cycling, going to the gym and watching rugby. I previously played rugby and spent many years rowing.
