Understanding Knee Pain
Knee pain can have a wide range of causes, from trauma and sport-related injuries to overuse or biomechanical overload. At Redrock Physio, we take the time to fully assess not just your symptoms but also the underlying patterns that may be contributing to your pain.

Two common contributors are stiff ankles and poor hip or pelvic control. Limited ankle mobility can change your gait and squat mechanics, placing excess stress through the knee joint. Similarly, weak glutes or poor pelvic stability can cause poor alignment and force distribution, often leading to anterior knee pain or irritation around the patella. Addressing these issues holistically helps ensure long-term improvement, not just short-term relief.

Anterior knee pain (such as patellofemoral pain or patellar tendinopathy) is often associated with overload, poor hip control, and movement dysfunction. Posterior knee pain may be linked to hamstring tendon issues, posterior capsule irritation, or altered gait mechanics.
How Physiotherapy Helps
Our approach is hands-on, structured, and entirely individualised. We use a combination of manual therapy, load-based rehab, movement re-education, and Pilates-inspired strength work to address not only pain relief but also long-term movement quality.

We focus on restoring load tolerance across the knee joint and the chain above and below, including the hip, ankle, and core. Our rehab plans are built around progressive strength and control, supported by video-recorded home exercise programs and ongoing guidance.

For tendon-related knee pain, such as patellar tendinopathy or persistent hamstring issues, we also offer radial shockwave therapy. This modality promotes blood flow, stimulates collagen regeneration, and supports the tendon’s natural healing process, particularly when combined with structured loading strategies. Shockwave can be an effective addition to treatment, especially when symptoms have persisted beyond the expected healing timeframe.
