Your first visit, step-by-step stage
What actually happens
Why we do it
1. Before you arriveWhen you book, you’ll receive an e-mail with a brief health questionnaire and consent form. Completing this online saves valuable treatment time.Gives us your medical background and flags any precautions.
2. Welcome & chat (10-15 min)We sit down to talk through your symptoms, lifestyle, hobbies, work set-up, previous injuries and your personal goals for physiotherapy. A thorough case history ensures the treatment plan is tailored to you, not just the body part.
3. Physical assessment (15-20 min)You may be asked to stand, walk, squat or perform sport-specific moves so we can observe posture and movement patterns; then we test joint range, muscle strength, flexibility, nerve mobility and carry out any special orthopaedic tests. Please wear shorts for a leg or back problem or a vest/sports bra for neck-shoulder issues. Identifies the root cause rather than chasing pain alone.
4. Explanation & goal-setting We go through what we’ve found in plain English, show you relevant anatomy on the clinic iPad, and agree on realistic short- and long-term goals. Shared understanding keeps treatment focused and measurable.
5. Initial treatment (15-20 min)Typically includes a mix of manual therapy or soft-tissue work, gentle joint mobilisation or taping, plus the first set of bespoke rehab exercises. If appropriate, we may use shock-wave therapy or acupuncture. Videos of your exercises are e-mailed afterwards so you can replay them at home. You leave feeling some improvement and with a concrete plan.
6. Road-map & admin We outline how many sessions are likely, book your follow-up (usually 30 min), and settle payment/insurance paperwork. The standard initial appointment is 60 minutes and £80 self-pay; insurer fees are billed direct when authorised. Clear expectations and no surprises over cost or scheduling.
Quick answers to common worries
• Do I need to bring anything? Any scan reports, consultant letters or current medication list are useful, plus your insurance authorisation number if you’re claiming.
• Will it hurt? Assessment movements are gentle, and any hands-on work is adjusted to your comfort level; you stay in control throughout.
• What if I feel nervous? Let us know — we’ll pace the session and explain each step before we do it and you’re welcome to bring a friend or family member.
By the end of the first visit you’ll understand what’s wrong, why it happened and exactly what we’ll do together to fix it. And you’ll walk out with your first exercises on your phone, ready to start.
If anything isn’t clear beforehand, just ring 01727 309 915 or pop an e-mail to info@redrockphysio.co.uk ()and we’ll talk you through it.

- **Standard Follow-up (30 minutes):** For ongoing treatment and progressive rehab after the initial assessment.
- **Extended/Double Follow-up (60 minutes):** For longer manual therapy sessions, multiple body areas, or extra coaching time (e.g., detailed running gait analysis).

- **Routine Follow-ups (30 minutes):** Travel and setup time are included.
**Specialist Add-ons:**

In short: yes – physiotherapy is one of the most effective, evidence-based ways to relieve and prevent back or neck pain, and it’s something we treat every single day in the clinic.
**Conditions we commonly look after:**
- Acute or chronic mechanical back pain, lumbago and “non-specific” spinal pain
- Disc problems and sciatica (pain travelling into the leg or arm)
- Facet-joint irritation, spinal stenosis and degenerative changes
- Whiplash-associated disorder, wry neck and posture-related neck pain
- Cervicogenic headaches, rib/thoracic stiffness and muscle spasm
- Pregnancy-related pelvic and back pain
**How we tackle it at Redrock Physio**
**What we do / Why it helps**
1. **Detailed assessment (first 60-min visit):** History, posture & movement analysis, neurological and orthopaedic tests. Pinpoints the true source of pain so we treat the cause, not just the symptoms.
2. **Hands-on pain relief:** Joint mobilisation/manipulation, soft-tissue release, trigger-point work, and spinal traction where indicated. Reduces spasm, eases nerve irritation and restores normal movement.
3. **Targeted exercise & Clinical Pilates:** A personalised mobility, strength and motor-control programme delivered to your phone with video demos. Builds a stronger, more resilient spine and prevents recurrence.
4. **Posture & ergonomic coaching:** Desk-set-up tweaks, sleep positions, lifting technique, sports-specific load management. Stops everyday habits from fuelling the problem.
5. **Progress review & prevention plan:** Objective progress checks, return-to-work/sport testing, and a long-term exercise roadmap. Makes sure you stay pain-free once treatment finishes.
If pain has lingered for more than 48 hours, booking promptly can speed recovery and cut the number of sessions you need.
**Treatment tools we can add when needed**
- Shockwave therapy for stubborn, tendon-related spinal pain.
- Acupuncture or dry needling to settle muscle spasms.
- Blood-flow restriction or Pilates reformer work for deconditioning and post-surgical cases.
These options are always discussed and only used if they suit your goals and medical history.
**Typical timeline**
- Initial assessment: 60 minutes (£80 self-pay or insurer rates).
- Follow-ups: 30 minutes once a week to begin with; frequency tapers as things improve. Many people feel a clear improvement within 2–3 sessions, but persistent or complex cases may need a longer programme. Your physio will outline this after the first visit so there are no surprises.
**Ready to get started?**
Click “Book Now” on the website, or call 01727 309 915 if you’d like to chat things through first. No GP referral is needed unless your insurer asks for one.
If you’ve any questions about your specific back or neck problem, just drop us a line – we’re here to help.
Dress code made easy. A bit of planning can make your session smoother and save time once you’re on the plinth. Here’s our simple rule of thumb:
**Area being assessed / Best clothing choice / Why it helps**
- **Knee, ankle, foot or hip:** Loose shorts or jogging bottoms you can roll well above the knee. Let us watch your gait, test joint range and apply any tape.
- **Lower back or pelvis:** Shorts plus a vest or tee you can tuck out of the way. We’ll need to see how the lumbar spine and hips move together.
- **Shoulder, neck or upper back:** Sleeveless vest, racer-back top or sports bra (women). Exposes the shoulder blades, collar bones and neck for accurate palpation.
- **Running-gait or biomechanics session:** Shorts/leggings and your usual running trainers. We video your natural stride on the treadmill.
- **Clinical Pilates / Reformer:** Stretchy gym kit and grip socks if you have them (we sell spares). Keeps you warm yet unrestricted during floor and Reformer work.
**Quick checklist**
- Comfortable, loose-fitting layers – nothing too tight or denim.
- Hair tied up if it might get in the way.
- Remove long necklaces or dangly earrings.
- Bring any braces/orthotics you already use so we can review them.
If in doubt, opt for shorts and a vest – we can always drape towels for warmth or modesty. And don’t worry if you forget: we keep clean loan shorts and gowns at the clinic.
Feel free to ring 01727 309 915 before your appointment if you’re unsure what’s best for your particular injury – we’ll steer you right.
Our cancellation & rescheduling rules in a nutshell
• Give us at least 24 hours’ notice – phone 01727 309 915 or reply to your confirmation e-mail, and we’ll happily move or cancel your slot with no charge at all.
• Less than 24 hours’ notice or a no-show (self-funding clients) – a £50 late-cancellation fee is charged and must be settled before we can book you back in.
• Private medical insurance clients – your insurer will either deduct the missed appointment from your treatment allowance or be invoiced for the full fee; two late cancellations/non-attendances may lead to immediate discharge under most policies.
Why the policy exists
A day’s notice gives us time to offer the slot to someone on the waiting list and keeps the diary running smoothly, which ultimately helps every patient receive timely care.
How to cancel or reschedule
1. Call reception on the number above during clinic hours (08:00-17:00, Mon–Fri).
2. Use the link in your Cliniko confirmation e-mail or text reminder to move the appointment yourself.
